Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- Sprinkles or icing for decoration
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set it aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) into the butter mixture. Mix until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until the dough comes together. If the dough feels too sticky, you can add a little more flour.
- Divide the dough into two halves and flatten them into discs. Wrap each disc in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a floured surface, roll out one disc at a time to about ¼ inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
- Once cool, decorate with sprinkles or icing as desired. Enjoy your delicious cut-out sugar cookies!
